Palnackie Detectives hard at work

Solway Heritage helped Primaries 5, 6 and 7 of Palnackie School to undertake some detective work about their village. A series of workshop days were held to look for clues in old maps, documents and photographs. Architects pointed out built features and answered questions about the childrens own careful observations about how the village has changed over the years.

The pupils worked closely with artist Hugh Bryden to produce drawings, prints, models, illustrated guides and written work to record what is special about Palnackie.

All their findings were presented in an exhibition held in the Village Hall in Palnackie. The exhibition generated a lot of community interest and it is hoped that the work will lead to the development of a “Village Design Statement”.

The “Palnackie Detectives” project was delivered by Solway Heritage to help realise the potential of the National Scenic Areas.  The project is part of a series funded through Sulwath Connections by the Heritage Lottery Fund, Scottish Natural Heritage and Dumfries and Galloway Council.
